PolyBeats
Feel the Rhythm
Defend yourself against the Poly-enemies! Tap to the beat to create matching shapes, block incoming enemies, and aim for the highest score. Stack combos by timing your beats perfectly — but miss the rhythm, and they’ll swarm your central metronome. PolyBeats is a rhythm-based tower defense game where timing, pattern recognition, and precision collide. Players place geometric shapes on the field to destroy enemies of the same form, but with every beat of the music, the shape you can place transforms — a circle becomes a square, then a triangle, and back again — cycling perfectly to the rhythm of the track.
Different musical setups offer unique challenges: choose between 2-, 3-, 4-, or 5-beat rhythms to test your reflexes at varying tempos. The longer you survive, the faster and more chaotic the patterns become. Power-ups and power-downs keep each run unpredictable — slow down time, sync all shapes into one form, or clear the board in a single rhythmic burst.
The story
What started as a couple of wild game mechanic ideas quickly evolved into detailed design documents, brainstorming sessions, and early prototypes. The result was a fully playable demo showcased at the Very Big Indie Pitch 2015 in Helsinki — where PolyBeats took home first prize.
